PAST, ACTUAL AND FUTURE EU-FUNDED RESEARCH, TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRATION ACTIONS IN THE FIELD OF PHOTOVOLTAICS

After a brief review of the European Union institutional structure, the Research Directorate and its Fifth Framework programme are described. A focus on renewable energies is then given, with particular attention to photovoltaics. R&D activities in PV have been openly supported since 1980, and the Sixth Framework Programme (2002-2006) is expected to continue this trend.
