The Satellite and Payload Availability Simulation Environment (SPASE) integrates knowledge-based systems capability with object-oriented simulation, animated graphic displays and direct data manipulation. It is designed for the analysis of risk versus cost trade-offs in constellation management and the investigation of launch strategies for generic space systems. It exploits object-oriented and rapid application development paradigms, which appear to offer significant advantages for decision analysis where knowledge from multiple technical domains is needed to understand a complex problem. This paper describes the general user functionality of this software.
