KEY TECHNICAL BREAKTHROUGH OF SPEED UP ON CHINA'S EXISTING RAILWAYS

After joining the WTO, the focus of scientific and technical pioneering work of China's railways is to increase the running speed of both the passenger trains and the cargo trains. For a long time, the top running speed on the railways paces up and down about 110km/h. This has effected seriously the positive role of the railways which function the great artery of transportation. The paper analyses the complexity and difficulties of the speed-up project on China's existing railways, and expounds with emphasis the great breakthroughs in the key technology of the speed-up. These are: (1) the successful development of 160-200km/h "Chinese Brand" high-speed passenger train and locomotive and carriage group for which we have our own intellectual property; (2) the successful development of the key components of the existing railway structures, such as the speed-up switches, transregional seemless railway lines, etc. which have all reached the advanced international technical level; (3) the successful development of the four-display speed differential signal system and the control system of train travelling; (4) according to the principle of system engineering, study and implement of the comprehensive united dispatch tests, thus realizing the great system technical integration; (5) the establishment of the systems of speed-up safety management and risk control; (6) put forth four new establishments of the theoretical study on the wheel-track relationship. Thanks to the technical pioneering of the speed-up, China is the first one to realize the pioneering work of running at the same time the 160km/h high-speed trains and the 5000T heavy-load trains on the existing railways. The freight volume per business kilometer of all the railway network ranks No. 1 in the world. In this paper, it expouds in detail the remarkable economical and social benefits gained by the all-round promotion of the key technology of the speed-up.
