Energy comsumption in Building Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems is growing quickly. Fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) is necessary for the modern office building since it can be used to trace the cause of the decrease of energy efficiency in an HVAC system or the decrease of the thermal comfort level in the rooms. This paper studies a model-based FDD on an office room. By analyzing the physical relations between all the parts of an office room, the models for the room are built with Simulink~R. Two types of fault are studied in this paper: an opening window and a jammed radiator valve. By introducing a characteristic parameter, these two faults are able to be detected and diagnosed.
