Nanotechnology has left the level of basic research and makes just the step into applications. In Germany the "lead industry" - the automotive industry - is finding out the benefits of Nano. German car manufacturers, material and component suppliers, start-up companies, institutes and universities plan to explore the potential uses of the nanotechnology in concerted actions as pre-competitive research within a project cluster called "Nano in Cars". The ultimate objective is creating superior components that will result in new functions aiming to a sustainable mobility.
