People urgently need to know the dynamic performance of each pay zone within the perforations and each small separate layer of a thick oil formation in oil and gas production wells. This paper presents the status of multi separate layer well testing technology for production wells at home and abroad, and simply describes the structure and working principle of multi-separate layer well tester developed by our country itself. The tester is run to the well with double packers driven by a downhole hydraulic power system, which may pack off the interval to be tested for separate layer well testing, the packers may be set and released repeatedly, and the tester may obtain, several times, the static pressure, permeability, skin factor, formation fluid, productivity and other parameters of separate layers of a production well, making us be definitely and immediately aware of dynamic reservoir performance. This technology will provide conclusive object data and dependable basis for selective zone production and separate layer water flooding, layered production increment, water blockoff and profile control, tertiary recovery, rational reservoir development increasing production, enhancing oil recovery and raising economic benefits.
