Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) marks were used to assess the level of polymorphism in wild Malus. Three primer combinations were used to detect a total of 229 AFLP fragments in 23 wild species and 8 varieties, with 217 fragments (94.8% of the total observed) being polymorphic. The data analysis by the treecrown software package showed that AFLP was an efficient and reliable technique and a promising tool for taxonomy studies. The relationships of interspecies of wild Malus are discussed.
