Simulation research vijas conducted with 'Starkrimson' apples adopting a quadratic orthogonal combination design. Two regression models were established to describe the quantitative relationship of respiration and weight loss of stored apples to temperature, O_2 and CO_2 levels in storage environment The model analysis showed that the first and second important factors on respiration rate were temperature and O_2 level, respectively; the first important factor on weight loss was temperature, within the range of 0-15%CO_2, 2-20%O_2 and 0-15°C. Therefore, low temperature and oxygen should be considered at first for control of fruit respiration and weight loss. If we need to store apples at a relative higher temperature for the purpose of energy-saving, low oxygen should be considered. Actual experiment results showed that the respiration rate and weight loss of apples stored at 7.5%CO_2+2%O_2+9°Cwere lower, this confirmed that the 7.5%CO_2+2%O_2+10°C combination selected by us on the simulation analysis of firmness is a good energy-saving CA combination.
