The extensive application of light gauge steel framing in the Korean construction industry was launched with the introduction of 'Steel House' by Pohang Iron & Steel Company(POSCO) since the end of 1990s. Although it was first applied into residential buildings, the system's many advantages have encouraged owners, architects and builders into broadening its application to other building types such as public buildings, restaurant, school, health care center and others. Wider acceptance of light gauge steel framing within the industry has propelled innovative designs, including the application of steel trusses for a Korean traditional roof system. This is one of the many design achievements being made in Korea to lead towards sustainable design while preserving traditional architectural forms. The case project, a private restaurant that serves Korean traditional food, shows the design and application of light gauge steel trusses on a roof that preserves all its traditional features. The paper presents the details of the architecture and the construction.
