OFFICE 2015- INNOVATIVE AND ECONOMICAL USE OF STEEL IN MIDDLE-SIZED OFFICE BUILDINGS

3L has developed and carried out many research projects in the last ten years concerning the use of steel in house building. After the realization of different residential buildings in steel construction 3L uses the developed steel system in an office building for the first time. It is the new office building of 3L architects and industrial designers. Veronika Lenze and Klaus Th. Luig undertake to finish the research and development project supported by the government of Northrhine-Westphalia with the realisation of the building. 3L was founded in 1989 by the two managing directors and has now about 25 employees. The new 3L office building 'Office 2015' offers space for a maximum of 50 employees. The building contains an useful area of 1.030m~2. The whole bearing structure consists of 62t that is equivalent to an one-ply steel sheet of 7.9mm thickness (Figure 1).
