The possibility of transporting red blood cells (RBC) and proteins through micro-capillaries with longitudinal electric fields has a great potential in the development and fabrication of the next generation of chip-based miniaturized medical diagnostic kits for infectious disease, cellular anomalies, sickle cell and other problems. Such problems are currently tested for by 96-well plate screening methods, microscopy, or by reagent strip technologies and require relatively large volumes of blood.
