This paper presents a novel clean production process of sodium chlorite by reducing sodium chlorate with hydrogen peroxide. The process consists of two stages: (1) chlorine dioxide generation, and (2) chlorine dioxide absorption. Process conditions are experimentally investigated for generation of chlorine dioxide, such as reaction temperature, concentration of sodium chlorate solution, molar ratio of NaClO{sub}3: H{sub}2SO{sub}4: H{sub}2O{sub}2, and acidity. Waste acid produced in chlorine dioxide generator is dramatically reduced by recycling. The by-produced sodium sulfate in sulfuric acid is minimized and reclaimed.
