摘要

Forage and livestock producers who follow proper forage management practices can provide a significant amount of the annual forage needs for their enterprise. A survey was mailed to 8500 Oklahoma livestock producers to document current forage management practices used in forage/livestock systems and identify potential areas for extension programming and future research efforts. Most livestock producers are involved with a beef cattle enterprise on a part-time basis. Many producers are interested in these enterprises because of the rural lifestyle that offers a form of supplemental income. Also, many of these producers have a hay feeding season in excess of 90 days. Because of the amount of time and expense involved in feeding hay, the area of greatest potential impact would appear to be the reduction in the reliance on harvested forages for winter-feeding programs.
