In recent years, considerable attention has been focused on the development of new curing systems for thermoset coatings which would meet the high demands of the market by offering environmental-friendly characteristics. One of the key issues to formulating successful thermoset coatings is the selection of an appropriate crosslinking mechanism. Early coatings utilized oxygen to crosslink alkyd resins that contained unsaturation. Coatings with improved performance have been developed using melamine and isocyanate crosslinkers. Further advances in coatings technology will depend, in part, upon the new developments in curing systems. The coatings industry is continually searching for new methods of preparing thermoset polymers at ambient temperatures.
