摘要

Biomedical materials play a key role in modern medicine such as in guided tissue regeneration (GTR) membranes. According to the studies, only periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs) have the potential for regeneration of periodontium. GTR membrane functions as a barrier to deflect the gingival tissue away from the root surface and create a protected space over the defect that allows the remaining PDLCs to repopulate on the root surface. Usually the surface that faced the defect would accelerate the periodontal tissue regeneration, while the other side functioned as inhibition of epithelium downgrowth. However, there are some disadvantages such as the costs, time, errors etc.
