Advanced technology in producing petroleum-based composites has given many benefits to mankind. Green composites derived from renewable resource based plastics and natural fibers are the wave of the future. Cellulose ester derivatives (Fig. 1) such as cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate propionate and cellulose acetate butyrate are green matrices, which have excellent potentials to replace petroleum-based polypropylene (PP) in composite applications.
