Room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs), also known as molten salts, are composed of weakly coordinated organic cations and anions. RTILs are nonvolatile, have high ionic conductivities, and have a wide electrochemical window, which make them attractive for many applications. Ionic liquid polymers (polymers containing an ionic liquid moiety in each repeat unit) integrate the unique properties of RTILs within a macromolecular system. However, there are limited studies on the properties of ionic liquid polymers, where the migration of ions may not only be related to their chemical nature, but may also be dependent on the polymer structure. Previous studies have shown the effect of tethered spacer chain length between ionic liquid group and polymer backbone on ion conduction. In this work, the effect of copolymer composition and anion type on the polymer structure and ionic conduction was explored.
