The nickel catalyst(1)has been found to be very effective for the copolymerization of ethylene and methyl acrylate when activated by B(C_6F_6)3 cocatalyst.1 The optimum temperature for this copolymerization is considerably higher than the optimum temperature for homopolymerization of ethylene.We have undertaken an experimental design to elucidate the effects of the variables temperature,ethylene pressure,methyl acrylate concentration,and B(C_6F_6)_3 cocatalyst concentration on this copolymerization reaction.
