SPF DB/SPF APLICATIONS AT EADS-CASA FOR AEROSPACE COMPONENTS

EADS-CASA began the development and the production of superplastic forming and of diffusion bonding combined with superplastic forming (from now on SPF and DB/SPF respectively) components in the late 1980's, in the Plants that the Company has in Getafe and Cadiz. From then on and so far, design and analysis activities has been centralised in Getafe and development and manufacturing activities in Cadiz. It is not sought in this paper to make an exhaustive and detailed description of the different SPF & DB/SPF developments carried out by EADS-CASA. However it is intended to enumerate and expose in a sequential and chronological way, the main aerospace applications of both technologies through the components more characteristic and emblematic. Most of them are at the present time in phase of mass production. In the later part of the paper it is given a particular and personal overall view of basic considerations to be taken into account in order to apply this novel technology in the correct way.
