Embedding SmCo_5 Powder in the Coating of Optical

Some results obtained during the investigation of the possibility of embedding magnetic powders in the coating of optical fiber are presented. The single-mode optical fibers were coated with SmCo_5 magnetic powder dispersed in poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) solution in toluene. The main task of this work was to define conditions necessary to obtain the most uniform coatings. The microscope analysis was performed on all investigated SmCo_5 concentrations and coating rates. These microphotographs were treated with appropriate! software for quantification of visual information, and further evaluated by mathematical-statistical method. The results show that the most uniform coatings were obtained with dispersion having viscosity in a very narrow range. It has been shown that all of the process parameters such as. SmCo_5 concentration in composite coating, coating velocity and temperature should be established in accordance with evaluated optimal viscosity, which enables the forming of the most uniform composite coating for the investigated system.
