摘要

In collaboration with the Environment and Natural Resource Services (SDRN) of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Texas A&M University has been conducting research during the past five years in the area of integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and Spatial Analysis/Modeling for sustainable agriculture in general and food security mapping in particular. In this paper, I will present a synoptic review of an on-going research projecton integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing technologies for multiple-scale food security mapping. Issues related to the selection of indictors, evaluation models, and policy implications will be discussed in detail. The paperwill also explore how these technologies can be transferred to China in its agricultural policy and poverty-alleviation decision making processes.
