THE STORAGE EFFECTS OF 1-MCP ON 'STARKRJMSON' PPLES

1-MCP, an ethylene inhibitor as the most promising fresh keeping agent of horticultural products was applied to apple fruits before normal cold storage. The cultivar, which was used in this experiment, is 'Starkrirnson'. 1-MCP gas concentrations usedwere 0.25ul/l, 0.5ul/l and l.Oul/l generated from measured amount of Ethybloc? (0.14%) powder. The results indicated that 1-MCP delayed fruit maturation and senescence by decreasing respiration rate during storage, inhibited the occurrence of post-harvest disorders like superficial scald, extended the storage and shelf life and improved the storage quality of 'Starkrimson' fruits significantly. Under the normal cold storage for 6 months, the effects of the three 1-MCP applications (0.25, 0.5 and l.0ul/1) were similar. The results also indicated that the efficacy of 1-MCP was affected by its concentration applied, especially for long storage (more than 6 months).
