The hygroscopic behavior of mixture particles of ammonium sulfate (AS) with pre-synthesized nanoparticles at different volume fractions is investigated. After depositing the mixed particles on a solid substrate, the hygroscopicity and phase transition were measured using a Raman spectroscopic system combined with a humidity controller in which the particles undergo both humidification and dehumidification processes. A signal corresponding to water vibration was detected with increasing humidity (humidification process) resulting from the particles taking up water. Relative humidity starting phase transition of the particles varied with changing volume fractions. Our results imply that mixing (nano)particles can influence the deliquescence of the matrix, inorganic (micro)particles.
