We measured soil water content and saltation process at a cultivated land in Australia during JADE (Japan Australia Dust Experiment) IOP1 from 23 February to 13 March 2006. The soil water content ω in dry condition was 0.8 weight%. During a strong wind event after precipitation, ω increased to 2.5 %. The measurements suggest that (1) saltation particle number is soil water-dependent, (2) a simple relationship exists between saltation particle number and wind speed, and (3) saltation particle size spectrum changed from dry to wet conditions.
