Food safety begins on the dairy production unit. It is the responsibility of the owner, veterinarian, dairy product vendors and their employees to keep the milk and dairy beef free of adulterants up to the point when the milk or dairy beef is offeredfor sale. Therefore, the dairy farm must be managed on a daily basis for animal health and well-being, public health, environmental health, and the financial bottom line. The milk supply is regulated by the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) and the dairybeef is regulated/inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The liquid and solid nutrients are regulated by local, state and federal air quality and water quality boards.
