Metal matrix composites (MMC) can be suitable for structural applications owing to their unique combination of high specific strength and elastic modulus. Structures can be fabricated using different methods of cutting, machining and joining [1-4]. The choice of joining techniques such as riveting, gas, arc, laser and electron-beam welding will depend on the type and distribution of the reinforcement in composite materials. However conventional welding techniques, even though inexpensive, have certain limitations for manufacturing particulate and fibrous metal-matrix composite structures.
