Development of personalized distance education systems based on interactive multimedia technologies

摘要

Development of computer and communication technologies, particularly in the area of multimedia and intelligent agents, makes Web-based teaching and learning increasingly popular. This paper presents current activities in the area of distance education systems in Slovenia, with special emphasis on personalized Remote Educational Application (REA), developed at University of Ljubljana. REA is based on WWW and Java programming language and serves as a framework for preparation and presentation of the courses on different topics. In addition, REA supports storage of all courseware materials using a local mass storage device, automatic retrieval of additional materials via the Internet or by DVB system and videoconferencing. By integrating of multimedia, meta-data and intelligent agents into REA, we enable learning processes to become more personalized, more interactive and therefore more efficient.
