Antibiotic composites made out of biodegradable polymers have advantages over conventional polymethylmethacrylate composites and intravenous antibiotics in four ways.First,biodegradable composites provide bactericidal concentrations of antibiotics for the prolonged time needed to completely treat the particular orthopedic infection.
