Partition data for transfer of acetic and propionic acids from aqueous (NaCl) solutions to cyclohexane in the absence and in the presence of tri-n-octylphosphine oxide (TOPO) were determined at 30°C. The monomer partition constants, the dimerization constants, and the association constant for TOPO-acid complexes have been evaluated. Salting out parameters were found to increase with increasing (TOPO) level in the organic phase as a result of stabilization of acid by complexing with (TOPO).
