Three composting trials conducted using turned piles were performed with different amounts of corrugated board industry solid wastes (CBISW) (5 percent, 10 percent and 15 percent) mixed with a horse manure matrix. Several parameters were followed, including temperature, C:N ratio, pH, phytotoxicity and cellulase activity. The results for all trials showed the thermophilic phase was reached; as to the trial with 15 percent of CBISW, the thermophilic phase lasted for 10 days, reaching a maximum temperature of 66 deg C. The increase in the amount of CBISW led to nitrogen conservation in the biomass. The cellulase activity profiles were similar in all trials, but there was a significant difference in maximum activity between the trial with 15 percentCBISW compared with the trial with 5 percent CBISW. Although these results support the increase in the incorporation of CBISW, the phytotoxicity parameter suggested not to exceed 15 percent, once the germination index for the compost obtained with 15 percent of CBISW was 67 percent.
