Designing pumping stations is a complex task that involves drawing together input from a wide range of engineering disciplines. Pumping station design requires an integrated approach that takes into account factors such as the following: · Project definition and delivery · Integrated system design · Station layout and plant options · Control optimisation · Whole life costing (CAPEX and OPEX) · Refurbishment and performance improvement This paper gives an overview of each of the above elements and gives a number of examples to illustrate the consequences of failure to give correct consideration to the appropriate design parameters.
