Catalytic limitation of organic chloride and sulphur emission in the thermal waste utilization process

The effect of temperature on thermocatalytic oxidation of 1,2-dichloropropane, diphenyl sulphone and thiazole was investigated. Platinum and copper-zinc catalysts were used in the experiments. The efficiency of the treatment process was estimated by measuring the concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans in the oxidation products of a chloroorganic compound, and the concentrations of sulphur dioxide in the oxidation products of an organic sulphur compound. For both oxidation processes, increasing the temperature to the range of 350 to 550°C was advantageous. The results of the investigations demonstrate the potential of thermocatalytic oxidation for treatment of waste mixtures containing organic compounds of both chlorine and sulphur.
