LESSONS LEARNED FROM RECENT FLOODS

The Army of the Czech Republic demonstrated during the deployment in 1997 and 1998 its ability to carry out non-standard intervention (providing of military relief work) wherever and whenever necessary. To its credit, it also saved many human lives and a large amount of material property. According to public opinion, the ACR provided one of the most significant and effective forms of assistance during the flood period. As a result, the Army's public prestige has significantly increased. At present, in concurrence with the accession of the CR into NATO, it is necessary to review the current legislative measures and the state structure, to learn lessons from the inadequacies and to universally improve the system of protection of the population and its property against crisis situations.
