Reverse engineering an entire triceratops dinosaur is a monumental task! The fact that it was the first triceratops ever found and belonged to the Smithsonian Institution is even more exciting. That's just the task that Scansite, of San Rafael, CA was handed one year ago. Thus began the process of 3D laser digitizing a 19' specimen with 187 bones ranging in size from a 3 foot, 250 lb. leg bone, to a 6 foot long, 600 lb. skull. Using these methods married the very latest in cutting edge technology to the science of studying prehistoric life.
