Given modern trends in environmental consciousness, responsible manufacturers are looking for ways to reduce emissions from the multitude of processes they use on a daily basis. The cleaning step, or "pretreatment," is certainly one that carries a high emissive potential to both water and air. This poster paper will investigate methods and synergies that can be used to effectively and cost efficiently implement cleaning processes to either deliver or closely approach the goal of "zero discharge" while maintaining the most important aspect of performance: clean parts. A brief overview of regulatory trends will be included to help provide direction toward processes that are appropriate for different cases.
