This paper will focus on the international molasses market and its effect on pricing in the North American feed market. Also, a brief discussion on other liquid by-products and feed nitrogen sources is included. World sugar production continues to increase with production going from 108 million metric tons to 135 million metric tons in the past decade. Production in 2000/2001 is expected to decline to 126 million metric tons. World molasses production for 2000/2001 is expected to decline to 45 million metric tons from 48 million the previous year. Adverse weather and low world sugar prices during the past three years have caused the decreased sugar and molasses production.
