Naphthalene based polyimide (PI)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composite was prepared from naphthalene tetracarboxylic dianhydride and ethylene diamine with MWCNT by a two-step reaction. Chemical structure of PI/MWCNT composite was confirmed with Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and studied its electrochemical behavior as a cathode active material for sodium ion battery (NIB). The presence of MWCNT help to increase the ease of electron transfer between the low conducting PI chains. PI/MWCNT composite cathode was prepared and fabricated NIB in combination with a highly porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVdF) membrane separator containing 1 M NaC104 solution in ethylene carbonate (EC)/propylene carbonate (PC)/dimethyl ether (DME) in 1:1:1 volume ratio. The combination of highly porous membrane with PI/MWCNT cathode exhibit good electrochemistry with high and stable cycle performance.
