Porous silicon studies of Prof. Yukio H. Ogata

Professor Yukio H. Ogata has passed away by heart attack on November 3, 2014 in Malaysia during his private journey. The tragedy happened one and half years after his retirement from Kyoto University. We were so surprised and could not believe it for a while. The authors still wanted to beg Yukio to give them advises as usual. His death caused serious feeling of loss not only to his family, but also to those who have worked with him. An author (TS) has collaborated with him for 25 years and this period matches almost exactly when Yukio was studying porous silicon. Later the other author (KF) joined the group. Although TS has his main research major different from porous silicon, KF majored porous materials under the intimate collaboration with Yukio. In the following we would like to follow his career as electrochemist, porous silicon scientist, and a director of the research institute.
