Researchers identify systematic approach to design and the use of design methods as the way open to the industry to develop world class products. However many design methods developed by researchers are not taken up for use by the industry. It therefore becomes necessary to illustrate the use of such methods in different application areas and stages of the design process. Five case studies are discussed here to demonstrate the potential of the methods and methodologies. It is proposed that a virtual design centre as the way forward to facilitate the learning and implementing systematic approach and the use of various design methods.
