This paper introduces a methodical approach using tools, techniques and strategies for the concept, design and evaluation phases for the 'Design, Build and Test of a Cost Reduced Product'. Initial conceptualisation and identification of requirements for the product, utilised the existing product. New concepts are generated based on the requirements and conceptual design of the existing product. These were then further analysed against concepts using Pugh's Concept Evolution Method and Problem Solving Techniques. Three prototypes were manufactured and assessed against customer requirements. These included functionality, mechanical durability, quality and aesthetics. Cost savings, manufacturability and ease of assembly provided by the new product have also been considered.
