Infineon Technologies (formerly Siemens Semiconductor Division) has developed a modeling methodology that integrates static models, queuing network approximations, and discrete-event simulation into a comprehensive approach to factory performance analysis. Applied by a centralized team of internal experts working directly with factory personnel, the three modeling techniques are integrated into a cohesive program for better understanding factory operations, setting performance goals, and measuring improvements. The methodology is a six-step approach implemented through traditional team concepts. This analytical approach was developed during a project at the Infineon Singapore assembly and test factory, where a major focus is on achieving capacity increases with minimal equipment additions. Further applications have been made at the Infineon Malacca back-end factory. Once fully developed, this methodology has potential as a standard approach to factory management.
