Future perspective (Technical, Regulatory Administrative Trend) of Automotive Crash Safety Test and Analysis

Automotive safety has become a big driving factor for the automotive industry during recent years. After several crash-tests have been performed by consumer magazines approximately 30 years ago, increasing interests for vehicle safety was generated. Nowadays vehicle safety is strongly driven by consumer programs (NCAP), crash tests from consumer magazines and also legislation. While in the past the main targets were related to passive safety (now often called secondary safety) an increasing focus is nowadays also related to active safety, (now often called primary safety) Both together are also called integrated safety. The main focus of this presentation is still related to secondary safety. But some interactions to primary safety are also addressed. The presentation also tries to combine facts with some personal impressions of the author and ideas for strategies. The paper tries, staring from frontal impacts throughout all different kinds of collision situations to analyse and discuss the current situations of the individual impact situations. The trend analysis tries to focus on the situation in Europe but never the less some facts of the worldwide situation.
