Impact of Recent Developments in Non-destructive Inspection and Information Technology on the Quality Assurance of Structural Steel in Mexico

Recent advances in information systems and telecommunications are radically modifying economic models and social structures in our time. We want to highlight some recent technological developments that are having an impact on the fabrication, inspection and erection of structural steel. In this paper we will describe the process that we followed to develop our company's intranet and the form in which it is helping us to streamline communication and simplify information diffusion. Also, we will review the inspection plan that our company designed for one of the most important projects currently in execution in the country, the Torre Major Building in Mexico City, evaluating the impact of internet in the distribution of information for this project. Finally, we will review some basic information about inspection personnel training and certification that makes possible the correct application of such inspection plans.
