Regional oil exploration: trends, influences and implications

The Asia Pacific exploration environment in which Australia finds itself at the beginning of this new millennium is a region awash with gas, but still woefully short of oil. This, in an industry where exploration, and explorationists have fallen into disrepute, driven by a market which sees exploration funds as unnecessarily risky. These discretionary dollars are seen as better used for the next purchase, merger, or share buyback.
