A molecular dynamics (MD) approach was applied to delayed fracture initiation from a free surface of pure Cu under corrosive environment to investigate brittle delayed fracture mechanisms. It was found that a thin hard oxide film tightly attached on the surface has an important role to constrain dislocation emission from the surface that promotes initiation of brittle cracks.
