RELAP5 is the primary thermal hydraulic engine that is used to predict plant transients in the Comanche Peak Simulator. The RELAP5 application was previously running on a DEC ALPHA machine; however, due to the increase in speed and affordability of the Intel processors, it was migrated from the DEC ALPHA to a Windows based platform. A significant effort went into testing the Windows application of RELAP5 prior to placing it in the Training environment. Although much of the testing entailed rerunning the annual Performance Tests and comparing with the previous simulator's results, this paper will focus on the testing that was performed to benchmark the Relap5 model to actual plant operational data." The paper will also describe how, due to the improyed fidelity of the Simulator models, the Simulator is becoming a tool often utilized by Operations and Engineering personnel for scoping/evaluating potential changes to system designs and/or operating procedures.
