Upgrade of the Full-Scope Replica Training Simulator of Bohunice V2 Nuclear Power Plant

Two VVER-440 V213 units are in operation at the Bohunice site in Slovakia. Up to now, operator training was assured by a simulator with a replica control room built in the seventies and fully obsolete according to current standards. This simulator is also used for the training of the Dukovany NPP operators (Czech Republic) and partly for the operators of the two older Bohunice V-230 units. In April 1998, a new screen-operated Multifunction Simulator (MFS) was delivered by the consortium Corys T.E.S.S.-Belgatom-Siemens within the E.C. PHARE "EVVEREST" project. At the same time, the Slovak regulatory authorities required an upgrade of the existing full-scope simulator (FSS) to make it compliant with current world standards. A feasibility study showed that the most cost-efficient solution for the upgrade was the connection of the multifunction simulator to the existing replica control room, panels (replace old simulation computers and models and old instructor station by state-of-the-art computers and simulation models delivered within the EVVEREST project). Slovakia obtained financial support from the European Commission for this project. In international competition, the contract was awarded to Corys T.E.S.S. who joined forces with the Training Department of the Slovak Nuclear Power Plant Research Institute (VUJE) to realise the upgrade.
