The implementation of advanced technology in personal computer systems in 1996 at the Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) Main Control Room Simulator in Brownville, Nebraska paved the way to implement additional technology that the CNS Simulator Services Team (herein referred to as "Team") refers to as "motion simulation". The Team was tasked to provide a means to simulate earthquake and main turbine high vibration malfunctions including the effects of motion in a simulation environment for licensed operator training and examination. These malfunctions were anticipated to be used extensively as a means for licensed operators to enter emergency operating procedures. The Team designed a draft design plan for motion simulation and determined that an earthquake motion simulation system and a main turbine high vibration motion simulation system could share some of the hardware design without affecting the desired results of either malfunction. This paper discusses the design, installation, data gathering and testing phases of the earthquake and main turbine high vibration motion simulation systems implemented at the CNS Main Control Room Simulator including the obstacles encountered during the installation and testing phases of this modification.
