The possibility of using lowest symmetric Lamb wave for quantitative evaluation of laminate stiffness reduction has been investigated. Ultrasonic wave velocity was measured for both cracked and uncracked FRP crossply laminates with different cracked ply thickness. It is confirmed that under long wavelength approximation, wave velocity of S{sub}0 Lamb mode is primarily dependent on overall laminate stiffness and well predicted by well-known plate velocity. Angular dependence of wave velocity of cracked and uncracked laminates was also evaluated to discussed damage induced anisotropy.
