CFRP/honeycomb sandwich panels with high damping capability ware studied for space satellite applications. In the panel, interlayer of damping material are applied among the CFRP laminated skins and/or between skins and honeycomb core. Free vibration test of laminated skins and sandwich panels with some interlayer are carried out to evaluate damping performance of interlayer material. Moreover, a reformulated general lamination theory based on the layerwise higher-order displacement assumption is proposed. The effects of shear displacement in high damping interlayer are evaluated by numerical method. The proposed layerwaise model is capable of precise laminate modeling and is consideration to out-of-plane shear strain., natural frequency and loss factor of CFRP laminated skins and sandwich panels are evaluated numerically. The numerical results were compared with the experimental results, and the applicability of the layerwise model was confirmed.
